The weather is getting colder and the leaves are falling. We’re set out our Halloween decorations for the neighborhood trick-or-treaters. We are compiling lists of items we have forgotten to do, like cleaning the gutters. But, the news outlets are telling us that we have run out of time. According to the Houston Chronicle, the temperatures are going to fall fast and we had better be ready for a cold, windy weekend.

Houston temperatures dip into 40s, freeze warning issued for Houston area

A cold front has pushed its way into the Houston area, bringing with it chilly winds and temperatures that will cause freezing for many parts of the greater Houston area, according to the National Weather Service.

A freeze warning has been issued for Friday between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. for Houston, Trinity, Madison, Walker, Burleson, Brazos, Washington and Grimes counties. Temperatures will drop to or just below freezing, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists are advising residents to protect their pets, pipes and plants.

A wind advisory is also in effect for parts of the southeast Texas coast, and Houstonians can expect to see sunny skies with a high of 54 degrees and gusts as high as 25 mph, meteorologists said.

This year is set to be on-par with average historical temperatures for Halloween in Houston, according to meteorologists. Clear skies for trick-or-treating Thursday night, but be sure to bundle up as temperatures will drop down to the 30s overnight and some locations around the greater Houston area will likely experience near freezing, meteorologists said.

The coldest temperature on record for Halloween is 29 degrees in 1993, while the record high was 88 degrees in 2004, according to the National Weather Service.

No freeze warnings have been issued at this time, but current forecasts show that areas north of Houston could see temperatures dip to 33 degrees or below.
