GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter)

GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets can stop electrical shocks in wet locations such as bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor areas.

Having a GFCI can also prevent house fires caused by electrical outlets. GFCIs immediately shut off an electric power circuit if it detects a current flowing along the wrong route, like through a person or through water. After an issue has been resolved you can reset the GFCI outlet with the “reset” button.

If you get GFCI outlets installed in your home, you should test them every month. Many LED lighting systems benefit from the safety of GFCI. You can test the outlet by pressing the “test” button next to the “reset” button. If the power is not turned off then the GFCI is not working correctly. If this happens we recommend you replace it immediately. You rely on GFCI outlets to protect you and your family so please ensure they are always working properly. In some homes that have suffered damage or older, could require some rewiring for the GFCI system.
