Not so long ago, one of out favorite outdoor activities was going to see extraordinary artists create gravity defying sculptures on the beaches of Galveston. These amazing creations were amazing and creative. After taking some time off, SandFest has returned to the beach, according to the Houston Chronicle.

A beloved festival filled with massive, larger-than-life sand sculptures is back.
The Texas SandFest returns to Port Aransas after being canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was originally scheduled to take place in April this year, but organizers postponed it to October out of precaution.
It will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all three days, October 15-17, according to a news release from the festival. Tickets are $15 for those 13 years old or older, $5 for those 6-12, and it’s free for anyone under five.
Texas SandFest is the largest native-sand sculpture competition in the U.S. What began as a small local contest in 1997 has grown into an internationally recognized three-day family event that draws renowned sand sculptors and tens of thousands of visitors from around the world each year to Port Aransas.

The event encompasses the masters’ gallery, where master and semi-pro sculptors compete and create their works of art. It also includes an amateur competition. In this year’s festival, attendees will see the work of the following: master sculptors Morgan Rudluff, Andy Hancock, Greg J. Grady, Albert Lucio, Sr., Todd Pangborn, and Bruce Peck, as well as semi-pro sculptors Amanda Bolduc, Leonard Gonzales, Mitch Guerrero, Marc Mangia, Steven Nagy, and Darrell O’Connor.

In addition to the sand sculptors, the festival will feature live performances by The Spazmatics, Clay Hollis, Matt Caldwell, and more. Spectators can also enjoy onsite offerings by various food vendors, kids’ activities, and shopping of arts and crafts, apparel, and souvenirs.
The amateur contest winners will be announced Saturday, October 16 at 5 p.m. while the master and semi-pro awards will be announced Sunday, October 17 at 3:30 p.m.
After October’s Texas SandFest events, SandFest will return to Port Aransas during its normal timeframe in April 2022. For more information on this year’s event, visit the event’s website.
