Plumbing leaks are not always obvious and can go unnoticed for long periods of time before being found. To ensure that such a situation does not happen in your home, read about the four places you may have hidden plumbing leaks below:
Old or damaged pipes inside walls are a frequent source of plumbing leaks. At first, signs of a wall plumbing leak may not be immediately obvious, and a leak may go undetected for days or weeks. Over time, the damage caused by the leak will be difficult to miss. For instance, walls that have been exposed to a water leak often display wet spots and paint bubbles.
Have you noticed wet areas or mold growing in the basement? If so, there’s a strong possibility that there is a water leak somewhere in the area. Ordinarily, basement water leaks originate from pipes that have become corroded and damaged. If this is the case, the pipes will need to be replaced by a plumber as soon as possible.
Hidden plumbing leaks often start in the pipes located underneath kitchen and bathroom sinks. To determine if this problem is occurring, inspect the area underneath your sinks and look for warning signs such as mold growth and dampness. If you recognize either of these problems, there’s a good chance that there’s a leak coming from either the pipe fitting or water supply line that will need to be repaired.
After years of use, the plastic ring that connects a toilet to the floor, called the flange, can become loose or break completely. This can cause water and sewage to seep out beneath the floor under the toilet. A key sign of a flange leak is floor-related water damage, which may not become apparent until the leak has been going on for some time.
