Winterizing your outdoor pipes shouldn’t just be a winter chore. It really is important to protect your exposed pipes, faucets and sprinkler systems from freezing damage. KRTK recently reported on exactly how to properly winterize your outdoor pipes and provides some suggestions like:

First, make sure you have located all outdoor pipes, faucets, sprinkler system heads, and backflow preventer. Look under bushes and behind landscaping. If you miss one the whole plumbing system may be damaged. If even a small area gets wet, the system can freeze.

Use old sheets, towels or old blankets to wrap around faucets, backflow preventer, and pipes. To winterize a backflow preventer, first turn the off the valves and bleed the system of water.

Inside, open cabinet doors to keep pipes under sinks from freezing.
